Pirate Murals - Nautical Murals

Pirate murals and nautical murals by mural artist, Thomas Kehoe, with an example of a pirate ship at harbor. The wall mural extends as a simple stone block wall into the adjoining room to create the sense of an outdoor stucco wall framing the harbor.

This project called for taking an open space in the home - a living room and dining room sharing a common wall - and using the pirate mural to define the space. The living room was opened up with the harbor scene. The dining room was made more intimate with the use of bricks and architectural features in the wall mural. The arch was used to transition the outside scene of the harbor to the inside scene of the castle dining room.

The artist added the barrel and what appears to
be the end of wharf jutting in to the room under
the barrel to carry the realism of mural into the room.

The nautical harbor scene carries through to the next room in the decorative painting of the faux brick wall.

Detail of trompe l'oeil arch over the doorway.

The nautical mural with the painted bricks carries the theme further. The trompe l'oeil arch over the door utilizes the cathedral ceiling to lift the doorway, creating a greater sense of space.
